Features and Benefits
Network scanning support (for Windows) for sharing scanner among clients and servers on a network Lets you access the scanner over a local area network (LAN). Allows multiple users to use the same scanner. Increases versatility and ease of use for network image sharing. Easy-to-understand icons and network messaging lets all users on the network know exact status of their scanning jobs and when scanner is available for access.
Transparent Media Adapter Support The ScanMaker 1000XL utilizes a larger-format TMA design that allows you to scan various materials with templates easily. Specially designed film templates accommodate 35mm mounted slides, 35mm filmstrips, 4"x5", medium format and even 6 x 17 cm panoramic.
Valued Software Pack The ScanMaker 1000XL comes with a generous software and accessories package including Adobe Photoshop Elements, Microtek's ScanWizardTM Pro, integrated Kodak Digital Science Color management system and scanner profiler, ABBYY FineReader Sprint for OCR, Ulead Photo Explorer for image viewer and multimedia file management. In addition, it is compatible with Microsoft XP, ME, 2000 and 98SE as well as Mac OS 10.3 and above.
It is also bundled with SilverFast Ai or additional availiable with SilverFast Ai&HDR.
Superior Quality with Microtek Random noise is a prime agent in affecting the quality of scanned images. With Multiple Sampling, each scanned line is sampled multiple times (frequency determined by the user in 2, 4 or 8 options), and an average is obtained to distill top-quality data. This technique effectively minimizes signal fluctuation and artifacts, resulting in purer image output to greatly enhance the optical density range.
X-Ray Scanning Capability for Medical Professionals: The ScanMaker 1000XL also captures details in highlight and shadow areas at a high optical density range of 4.0 Dmax, optical resolution of 3200 dpi and 16 bit of stored data. This provides Medical Professionals a solution to digitize their roentgenogram for electronic data storage convenience.
Ultra-fast scanning with FireWire and Hi-Speed USB connectivity Microtek's special electronic design provides both FireWire and Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) connections. By simply connecting the FireWire cable to your computer, you get 400 Mbps data transmission for fast, high-resolution image transfer. New Hi-Speed USB is capable of 480 Mbps data transfer, with true plug-and-play capability. All USB 2.0 devices are backward compatible with older USB 1.1 ports.
DIGITAL ICE Photo Technologie Unlike software only applications, DIGITAL ICE Photo Print Technology's integrated hardware and software automatically rebuilds prints without user intervention. DIGITAL ICE is exclusively designed and customized to be integrated into a particular scanner line for optimal print reconstruction results. DIGITAL ICE creates a defect map to identify the precise locations of physical defects or visual "noise" on a print being scanned. Differential shadowing technology and proprietary software algorithms quickly and automatically eliminate the unwanted defects producing an image that closely resembles the undamaged original.
Exceptional Image Quality The ScanMaker 1000XL has a 41300-element CCD with resolution that reaches up to 3200 pixels per inch. With the built-in 48-bit ADC (Analog to Digital Converter), the ScanMaker 1000XL can convert originals to digital data with high fidelity format. It is capable of delivering full 48-bit depth color for richer and smoother tonal values, and an optical range of 4.0 Dmax allows users to capture details in highlight and shadow areas, as well as accurately represent gradation and natural color from originals without sacrificing details of the image.
ColorRescue Photo Restoration Another Microtek-differentiated technology is ColoRescue, an automatic color recovery and control feature for faded, dull prints and film. These technologies combine to offer a powerful, automatic photo reconstruction and restoration solution for faster turnaround and improved workflow efficiency.

Review 1000 XL Microtek 1000XL Pro Flat Bed Scanner

By F Gurrie , Feb 22, 2007

"..I purchased this awesome Microtek 1000XL Pro flat bed scanner less than 18 months ago. I hooked up with Julio Fernandez and his amazing Wet Mounting System. The results have been astounding with this setup.

In this time frame, between working 50 hours a week and family duties, I have wet scanned 112 Provia 100 4x5 chromes. I am a firm believer in "scan once, output many". With this in mind, the file size of one of these "Digital Negatives" is close to 900 Mbytes when scanned at max optical resolution of 3200 dpi. This means I can print at 300dpi at larger that 40 x 50 inches. Wish I had an Epson 9800 printer.

I only want to tell all those who believe in Wet Mounting that this is the best scanning operation next to drum scanning. I have had 2 drum scanning experts look at several of these wet mounted scans. They could not believe they were not done on this scanner.."
